ADAR PersonalCloud Desktop

At the core of the ADAR PersonalCloud is a Microsoft Windows virtual desktop.  This virtual desktop works just like the computer you are used to working on.  Install any Windows-compatible software, upload your data and start working from any device.  Using VMware Horizon and the revolutionary PCoIP remote display protocol the desktop and your applications get streamed to any internet-connected screen just like you stream movies with Netflix® and shows with Hulu®.  You can connect from a PC in your office and start working on a spreadsheet, go to lunch and open the same spreadsheet right where you left off on your iPad then reconnect from home later using a Chromebook.

No matter where you are or on what device, you’re always connecting to the same virtual desktop with all your software, shortcuts, customizations and documents in one place.

Microsoft Office 365 Cloud

The ADAR PersonalCloud desktop is fully integrated with a Microsoft Office 365 subscription, which includes a 50GB Exchange mailbox, 1 TB of OneDrive for Business storage, Skype for Business, full version of Microsoft Office that can be installed on 5 computers (and unlimited number of mobile devices) and Office Online.  Any data created or saved on the virtual desktop is automatically synchronized with Office 365.

Accessing your data

Data can be accessed from any screen by streaming the virtual desktop using the VMware Horizon app. Email messages and files can also be viewed and edited by using Microsoft Office 365 apps (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) available for all platforms. No matter how you access the data all changes are automatically synchronized across all devices.

Microsoft Exchange mailbox is synchronized to the virtual desktop and can be synchronized in real-time to any number of other devices using the Outlook app or the native mail app (e.g. Apple Mail or Google Mail).  Messages received or sent from any device will be automatically synchronized across all other devices.

Personal File Library

All files and folders saved on the virtual desktops in the following locations are automatically synchronized to the OneDrive Personal Library and can be shared with others with either read-only or full-access rights.  Up to 20,000 files can be stored in these locations and kept in sync with OneDrive Personal Library.

– Desktop
– Documents
– Pictures
– Videos

You can take a picture or video with your smartphone, use the OneDrive mobile app to upload it to the Pictures folder and it will automatically appear on your ADAR PersonalCloud desktop.

Archive File Library

ADAR PersonalCloud comes with a pre-configured OneDrive Archive Library that lets you store unlimited number of files and folders – up to 1 TB in size.  The Archive Library is conveniently mapped on the virtual desktop as the X: drive and can be accessed via a web browser from any device.  It is the perfect place to save all of your historical data, pictures, videos and backups.

Why should I choose ADAR PersonalCloud instead of buying a computer and installing software?

ADAR PersonalCloud is not a replacement computer. Although a super-fast virtual desktop is part of the service, it is a fully integrated IT system designed for small organizations. It includes everything a small business may need: Microsoft Exchange email, cloud file storage and sharing, Microsoft Office licensing, instant messaging, security, AntiVirus, backup, automatic updates and much more. More importantly, ADAR PC brings it all together on a single virtual desktop that can be accessed from any internet-connected device. It allows you to install your own software such as Quickbooks and Adobe Photoshop, or any other program that runs on Microsoft Windows.

I have a relatively new desktop or laptop computer. Does the ADAR PersonalCloud still make sense for me?

See the question above to learn how ADAR PersonalCloud is much more than a desktop. ADAR PC powers your business’ digital life. The great thing is that you can access everything from any device and have the exact same experience with all of the same software. Your new desktop or laptop will easily connect to the ADAR PC virtual desktop. When running software and storing data on your own computer you have to worry about things like AntiVirus, backup and updates. A lost, stolen or broke computer means you to have to buy a new one and reinstall all of your software and hope that your files have been backed up properly. With ADAR PersonalCloud all that is done for you.

What is the difference between ADAR PersonalCloud and Google Docs or Office 365?

Software-as-a-Service providers like Google Docs and Office 365 require the user to maintain a complete computing environment on every device. You may store some of your data on these platforms but all of your installed software resides on a computer. If that computer is lost or fails you have to re-install all of your software on a new computer. With ADAR PersonalCloud desktop, all of your data AND software reside on a desktop in the cloud and no matter what device you connect from it will all be there in one place.

You’re asking me to move all of my business data to you. How do I know that I can trust you?

This is an excellent question to ask whenever you’re considering using any cloud product or service – you’re entrusting your business’ digital life to a company. How do you know if you can trust this company? The answer is reputation. For the past 10 years ADAR Inc. has built a stellar reputation with its customers and in the market place:

  • ADAR was founded in 2005 and focuses solely on providing cloud-based IT services to small and medium size businesses. We had pioneered bringing these services to the SMB market many years before our competitors.
  • ADAR has a Net Promoter Score of 75 – better than Apple and Amazon! See
  • ADAR has customers all over the world.
  • ADAR has been featured in Inc., Forbes, Crain’s Business, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-times and others.
  • ADAR has virtually no customer turnover. This means that once a company becomes a client of ours they love the service so much that they don’t want to leave.

I already use Dropbox, or a similar service, to store and share files in the cloud. Why should I use ADAR PersonalCloud instead?

ADAR PersonalCloud includes the same functionality as Dropbox, or similar service. You can store files, access them from multiple devices, sync them to your laptop for offline access and share them with colleagues. However, ADAR PC takes file storage and sharing to a whole new level of security. Although you can synchronize your files with your laptop, you don’t have to do so to be able to have access from everywhere. This means that if an employee leaves your company you can simply deactivate their access and even if they keep their laptop there won’t be any company data on it. Also, if a computer gets stolen you no longer have to worry about losing sensitive information. Your data will be stored inside of your individual ADAR PersonalCloud (very secure) and backed up to Microsoft OneDrive. By default, all data storage will be private but you can share it with either internal or external users on a per-file or per-folder basis.

We already use Microsoft Office 365 or Google Apps for our business email. How will this work with ADAR PersonalCloud?

Microsoft Office 365 is included as part of the ADAR PersonalCloud package. Although you can continue using your existing email system, we recommend migrating your email to the Microsoft Exchange mailbox provided with ADAR PC. It comes with 50GB of storage and the migration is easy. We are happy to help you get everything moved over.

Will programs run slower in the cloud than on a local desktop?

Programs will actually run faster, not slower. Here is why:

  • ADAR PersonalCloud runs in a high-end data center on enterprise-grade equipment with much better CPUs and memory compared to a typical desktop that uses lower grade equipment.
  • The internet connection at the data center is many times faster than on your local desktop. Try running a speed test on your local and then on the ADAR PC. A good site to use is You’ll see a huge difference.Speedtest
  • The hard drives used in ADAR PC are SSD (solid state) and are much faster than traditional hard drives in a regular desktop.

Therefore, on a stable internet connection the speed will be as good or better than local.

Why have I never heard of this type of service before? Is it something brand new and untested?

The IT model of using a centrally hosted virtual desktop and bringing all software and services together on it is far from new. It has been used by large enterprises for decades with technologies such as Citrix, Terminal Services and VMware VDI. However, these technologies have not been cost effective for smaller organizations, and require a large up-front investment. We at ADAR, Inc. – the company behind ADAR PersonalCloud – have been servicing our customers with this type of model for over ten years and have many thousands of users all across the world. Most of our customers have traditionally been companies with at least 20 employees. With ADAR PersonalCloud, we’re bringing the same large company IT benefits to the smallest of organizations and even to sole-proprietors at an affordable price. After all, that’s where we started over ten years ago.

It seems risky to have all of my programs and data in the cloud. What happens if my internet goes down?

One of the many great benefits of ADAR PersonalCloud is that if the internet goes down you can simply tether your computer to your mobile phone or go to a Starbucks down the street and you’re right back to work – exactly where you left off! What would happen if you have your data or even just your programs installed on a laptop and that laptop crashes, gets stolen or becomes unusable because of a virus? How long would it take to get back to work? With ADAR PC, just pick up any other device and you’re back in business!

What equipment do I need in my office to be able to use ADAR PersonalCloud?

In order to access the ADAR PersonalCloud desktop you will need some sort of device. It could be an existing computer or something different. It doesn’t need to run any software, only access the internet. See one of the FAQs below for a comprehensive list of devices. Beyond a device you’ll need internet access, keyboard/mouse and printer/scanner. Everything else will be done at the secure, Tier-3 ADAR data center. The ADAR PersonalCloud bundles all the IT services you need together (email, Microsoft Office, secure file storage, cloud storage, AntiVirus, backup, etc.) in a single, well-integrated computer environment. You no longer have to purchase individual services from different vendors and have to put them all together to make sure they work. More importantly, with ADAR PC you can install all of your traditional and web-based software on one virtual desktop in the cloud. All users can access the entire IT environment from any device and any location.

Do you provide setup assistance and ongoing support for my local office network?

With the ADAR PersonalCloud there are no local network services provided. However, other than stable internet access there isn’t anything else that you need. With ADAR IT – a full service IT-as-a-Service solution (, all such IT services are included.

Is my data secure?

Your data is protected with military-grade encryption when being transmitted to or from the ADAR PersonalCloud. ADAR does not keep a record of your password so our team doesn’t have the ability to log into your desktop as you, without you explicitly providing us with the password. ADAR’s system is built to cater to business that are highly regulated such as healthcare, legal, financial services and even publically traded companies. Our data center is SOC 2 Type 2 audited and all internal processes are regularly audited to be HIPAA compliant.

My laptop and desktop already have a password. How is ADAR PersonalCloud more secure?

The ADAR PersonalCloud is password protected using military grade encryption and all the latest security features including firewall, intrusion prevention system, and malware protection. It’s much safer than having data stored on Dropbox and synchronizing it to unprotected desktops/laptops/tablets/smartphones/etc, even if they have a password. If any of these devices get lost or stolen or get a virus, all the locally stored data can be exposed. Usually, these devices do not encrypt locally stored data. This means that if someone gets their hands on the computer and takes out the hard drive all the data is fully accessible.

What type of computer or device do I need to access my ADAR PersonalCloud desktop?

You can access your ADAR PersonalCloud desktop from pretty much any internet-connected device:
